EMBRYO TRANSFER

EMBRYO TRANSFER

The patient comes to the hospital with a full bladder on the day of the transfer. The transfer is done in the operating room under completely sterile conditions. It is checked that the patient's bladder is full. The patient is placed in a gynecological position, the patient is covered with sterile covers, the vagina is washed with physiological saline, the mucus in the cervix is cleaned. After the vagina is cleaned, the uterus, endometrial cavity and cervix are observed with ultrasound. The transfer catheter is pushed through the cervix with the help of ultrasound and it is seen on the ultrasound screen that it has passed the cervix. Then, the inner catheter is removed and the new inner catheter loaded with embryos is pushed through the outer catheter placed in the endometrial cavity, the inner catheter is pushed up to 1 cm behind the apex of the uterus and the embryos are deposited there. In the follow-up, the catheter is withdrawn by making a rotation movement, and the catheter is checked by the embryologist. During the transfer, retainer (teneculum) and dilator (bougie) should not be used as much as possible, but it may be necessary to use them in cases where the cervix cannot be passed. After the transfer, the patient is sent home after resting for half an hour. It is recommended that the patient rest on the day of transfer and the next day and not engage in heavy activities. The patient continues after the transfer to the drugs used to support the luteal phase, a pregnancy test (Beta-HCG) is performed on the 11th day after the transfer, in cases where pregnancy occurs, the patient takes the drugs 8-12. continues until the gestational week, the drugs are discontinued in cases where pregnancy does not occur.

The number of embryos transferred is determined by the age of the patient and the number of previous attempts.

Remaining good quality embryos can be frozen for later use.

The transfer can usually be done at the blastocyst stage on the 2nd, 3rd or 5th day, depending on the patient's condition.
